The Fourth Awakens: A New Yellowfin 7.4 Release
“There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?”
They may have been the words of Supreme Leader Snoke in The Force Awakens, but I’m referring to the awakening of new powers in the realm of Yellowfin analytics. Powers you can wield when transforming data into insights.
This awakening might not give you the immeasurable powers of The Force or place a lightsaber in your hands, but you will gain additional data transformation and Assisted Insights capabilities that can enhance your analytical powers. Don’t believe me? I find your lack of faith disturbing.
Here’s what is coming in the latest release of Yellowfin the fourth – the seven point fourth…(that one was a stretch, wasn’t it? Sorry.)…
Assisted Insights: from Dashboard to Report
In Yellowfin 7.4, you gained the new power of Assisted Insights – like your own droid that assesses the data for you and serves up the most relevant related information to give you greater insights.
“Well, if droids could think, there’d be none of us here, would there?”
– Obi-Wan Kenobi
In this new release, you can take the results of Assisted Insights from the dashboard directly into the report builder. Now you can further investigate those insights, use them as part of a dashboard, or share them as a standalone report just like any other report. Broadcast those insights!
Data Transformation up-skilled
We introduced Data Transformation for the first time in the last release. We were data transformation padawans. But now, we’re enhancing it. You get better performance and an improved user interface.
Find new transform steps, converters, and inline transforms that can enhance your data so you get to the insights faster. You will also get ‘find and replace’ functionality with regular expressions and you’ll be able to configure the preview row limit. Grouping data for numeric, text, and date fields, as well as auto-mapping for fields are now available. You’ll also be able to see your activity stream in the data transformation module, and a flow history will be available on the browse page.
Reporting and Data Visualization
In your reports and data visualizations, you will now have label styling options for line charts, horizontal bar charts, and reference lines. You can also get accumulation axes on your trellis charts like you can on other chart types.
You also get the power to password secure the PDFs you broadcast so only the right people see it.
“Power! Unlimited power!”
— Darth Sidious
You can now visually highlight portions of your time series analysis with custom date periods. We have added a new Date Period Extractor advanced function to help you do just that.
Canvas and Widgets
You have always been able to add text widgets onto your canvas, but now they support user prompt parameters, dynamic dates, and pre-defined date periods. So you can do so much more in your canvas to tell a data story. Plus, the general performance of the canvas has been improved so you get a smoother experience.
Web Services Administration
We are also giving you enhanced Yellowfin Overlord powers with a refreshed schedule management API that now supports scheduled transformation flows.
“You can’t stop the change, any more than you can stop the suns from setting.”
— Shmi Skywalker
