Yellowfin named as a Leader in Nucleus Value Matrix for Business Intelligence & Analytics

Global Business Intelligence (BI) and analytics software vendor, Yellowfin, has been named as a ‘Leader’ in Nucleus Research’s latest Technology Value Matrix for Business Intelligence and Analytics (Second Half 2014).

The report evaluated the world’s foremost BI vendors regarding their usability and functionality – the two factors that Nucleus Research has found indicate an applications’ ability to deliver initial Return on Investment (ROI) and maximum value over time.

The Nucleus Research Value Matrix is split into four quadrants: Leaders, Experts, Facilitators and Core Providers. Yellowfin was placed in the Leaders quadrant, with the report stating that “Vendors in the Leaders quadrant have invested in both functionality and usability features likely to deliver the greatest potential returns.”

“Yellowfin’s combination of a Collaborative BI platform, strong in-application BI presentation capabilities, data visualization, proactive alerts, and decision-making capabilities, provides a simple, easy to use BI solution on a platform that is 100% Web-based, and a view that is a single version of the truth,” read the report. “As more and more organizations are looking for greater ROI, reduced IT reliance and greater user productivity, Yellowfin’s focus on keeping the user interface and presentation layer simple and easy to use, has allowed it to compete on multiple layers for enterprise, departmental, or embedded BI deployments.”

Principal Analyst for BI and analytics at Nucleus Research, Nina Sandy, said research indicated that Yellowfin’s “easy to understand user interface, flexibility, self-service discovery and ease of deployment were key factors behind the success they have seen in their deployments.”

Sandy also cited Yellowfin’s multi platform and device independent support for Mobile BI, all-inclusive licensing model and Governed Data Discovery capabilities as strong advantages.

“Yellowfin offers key administrative, management, and advanced data analysis and exploration functions necessary for enterprise-wide deployments,” said Sandy. “Each license is also all-inclusive – there are no separate charges to utilize Yellowfin’s location analytics, collaborative capabilities, or native apps for iPad, iPhone and HTML 5 app for Android devices.”

Yellowfin CEO, Glen Rabie, said moving into the Leaders quadrant of Nucleus Research’s Value Matrix was an indication of Yellowfin’s willingness to innovate and its clear strategic direction.

“Yellowfin’s mission to make pervasive reporting and analytics deployments a reality has seen us deliver more industry firsts in 2014, aimed at making the benefits of BI broadly accessible,” said Rabie. “Yellowfin GeoPacks – launched in August this year and free to download from the Yellowfin Marketplace on the Yellowfin website – contain demographic, geometry and GIS data. As a result, organizations can now quickly combine location-relevant information with their own business data, without having to independently source that third-party information, to generate deeper location-based insight.”

Within each of its half-yearly Value Matrix reports, Nucleus Research “projects 6-month trends for each vendor”. Nucleus Research predicted Yellowfin would move further into the Leader quadrant – up, and to the right – in the next version of the report (First Half 2015), due out in June 2015.

About Nucleus Research’s Technology Value Matrix

The Technology Value Matrix is based on the two core criteria of usability and functionality – the two factors that Nucleus Research has found indicate an applications’ ability to deliver initial ROI and maximum value over time.

The ‘usability’ aspect of the matrix is scored on the intuitiveness of the application, availability of role-based interfaces, training requirements, and productivity impact on users. The ‘functionality’ component is based on scores relating to the breadth and repeatability of functionality in the core application, the availability and ease of integration of add-on functionality, and vendors’ investment in innovative functionality outside the application that delivers additional benefits.
