Yellowfin positioned in 2016 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms for third consecutive year

Global Business Intelligence (BI) and analytics software vendor, Yellowfin, has been positioned in Gartner’s 2016 Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms* report for the third consecutive year.

“We believe our commitment to making Business Intelligence easy to deploy, use and manage has been validated, with Yellowfin placed on Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for BI and analytics for the third year in a row,” said Yellowfin CEO, Glen Rabie. “Yellowfin leads the BI industry in user adoption rates with an innovative platform designed to make data more accessible, valuable and actionable for everyone. Yellowfin offers distinguishing Collaborative BI, Embedded BI, Cloud BI and Storytelling capabilities as well as end-user ease-of-use.

“In 2016, Yellowfin will continue to balance the self-service needs of business users and the governance requirements of enterprise IT, delivering an intuitive end-to-end business analytics platform – from data source to dashboards.”

Over the past 12 months Yellowfin has bolstered its partner network and client base across all major industries and geographies, adding thousands of new users.

Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms study is often regarded as the preeminent annual analysis of the global BI and analytics market, providing an independent examination of the market’s strategic direction, state of maturity and key technology vendors.

The BI marketplace has undergone significant change over the past several years.

“The BI and analytics platform market’s multiyear shift from IT-led enterprise reporting to business-led self-service analytics has passed the tipping point,” said Gartner in the 2016 Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms report. “Most new buying is of modern, business-user-centric platforms forcing a new market perspective, significantly reordering the vendor landscape.”

The 2016 Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms report evaluated 24 different vendors across 14 critical capabilities and five main use cases. The 2016 study also cited an additional 46 ‘Other Relevant Vendors’ that did not qualify for inclusion in the Magic Quadrant itself.

The five main use cases included: Agile Centralized BI Provisioning (Supports an agile IT-enabled workflow — from data to centrally delivered and managed content — using the self-contained data management capabilities of the platform), Decentralized Analytics (Supports a workflow from data to self-service analytics), Governed Data Discovery (Supports a workflow from data to self-service analytics to systems-of-record, IT-managed content with governance, reusability, promotability), Embedded BI (Supports a workflow from data to embedded BI content in a process or application), and Extranet Deployment (Supports a workflow similar to agile centralized BI provisioning for the external customer or, in the public sector, citizen access to analytic content).

The 14 critical capabilities for the 2016 version of the report were split into four categories: Infrastructure, Data Management, Analysis and Content Creation, Sharing of Findings. Critical capabilities in the Infrastructure category included: BI Platform Administration; Cloud BI; Security and User Administration; and Data Source Connectivity. Critical capabilities in the Data Management category included: Governance and Metadata Management; Self-Contained Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL) and Data Storage; and Self-Service Data Preparation. Critical capabilities in the Analysis and Content Creation category included: Embedded Advanced Analytics; Analytic Dashboards; Interactive Visual Exploration; and Mobile Exploration and Authoring. Critical capabilities in the Sharing of Findings category included: Embedding Analytic Content; Publishing Analytic Content; and Collaboration and Social BI.
